Comfort Maximized From New Plants to Furnace Service

December 11, 2015

With winter settled in and days that seem like there’s barely any sunshine, it can be hard to always feel like your home is a cozy place to be. That spreads far beyond having annual furnace service too, because there are various things you can do to help make your home feel comfy even when your furnace is doing its.

Here are a few that we find especially helpful here in San Jose:

  • Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, may mean a great deal of air is sneaking out of your home. It goes without saying that the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is making its way outside too. There are a host of options that can help you seal those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are pretty easy fixes for homeowners to do themselves.
  • Change your furnace filter. This is one of the most critical things you can do to not only improve your furnace’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your bills. Plus, you don’t need to have your furnace service technician to do it, you can take care of it yourself. It’s normally recommended to swap your furnace filter every one or two months to get the most out of its capabilities, but some could last even longer.
  • Add plants. Indoor plants can offer a number of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually appealing, they can likely boost your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a host of pollutants that are emitted from a host of common household cleaners, paints and other products.
  • Furnace service. This should be something that you’re already taking care of, but it never hurts to get a reminder. Having furnace service completed annually helps you be sure that your furnace is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be fixed so your comfort isn’t in trouble.

It doesn’t have to feel overwhelming to keep a comfortable home when winter sets in. Feel free to give us a call at 408-215-1018 to hear about any of these suggestions or find out more about furnaces, our furnace service or anything else comfort related.
